its really unfortunate these millionares talk about the street life, like they are going home to south central L.A. It is sickening that we are desencitized to all of the negative BS that we are doing to ourselves, it does not make sense that if someone comes down on us we get offensive, We should use this as an oppertunity to change one by one. Instill a dream in your child, dont let them become what you have, I still have hope, do you???? oh yeah and BET, you do not represent me, is there anything else to offer us that a bunch of shaking and grinding all day, viacom can you hear????

YES!!!...I mean look at rap today, all the talk about, ALL THEY EVER TALK about is guns, sex, and violance. Some rappers even pride themselves over their "gangsta" past lie it were some trophy. They talk about how the media is bringing them down when in fact they themselves are bringing the blackman down with their hate music. Thats right I said hate music, why..? Go to any music store and look for any black rappers album and play it, you'll notice at least one reference to how the "white man" did this to him, 'the white man" did that to him, worse some even claim "the white man" forced him into selling drugs and pimping. ****** please, I'm black and im sick of rappers today. i used to enjoy rap music back in the old days when the rap was clean yet addictive. Everything the rap industry once stood for is now being destroyed by narrow minded fool who still got their mind in the ghetto eventhough their living in luxury now.

I don't think that rap as genre has done a disservice to black people. It's a creative style of music that has had a signifcant impact on U.S. culture for the past two decades. With that being said, I agree with you in that the success of the hip hop has come at the expense of black people. The vast majority of hip hop is degrading, unoriginal, and harmful to the black image. However, with the bad also comes the good (like the influence hip hop artists have over their fans). For example P. Diddy's compaign to Vote or Die in 2004 and Nelly's foundation that encourages black people to become bone marrow donors (based in St. Louis), as well as the many philantropic projects he's done in the city. There is a downside to hip hop and what the majority of it represents, but at the same time every black person (or person for that matter) is responsible for themselves. Inspite of the negative image, black people have always risen above stereotypes and bad images (and will continue to do so). With that being said, hip hop artists (unfortunately & fortunately) have the right to make whatever type of music they like no matter what society thinks of it.

Your right. It portrays all black males as gangstas and ghetto thugs. On top of that it portrays all black females as hoes with ghetto bootys and no ambitions or goals in life.

It puts a dark shadow on those black people who are completely the opposite of this standard stereotype and I think that it shows the rap lifestyle as a positive thing for the youth so alot of them fall into it and are brainwashed by all the stereotypes and bet telling them what they should be.

There are millions of successful smart black people out there with good jobs, goals and ambitions and it makes me angry at how they all get grouped into the rap culture as well. I'm not black myself, and I don't pretend to be, but I certainly see your point and back you up 100%!!

You are right. Talk to people you know and keep telling them how you feel and continue to make your point. Yeah I believe it has portrayed black people in a very negative way.
