A lot of people see tattoos as a form of self-expression; others just want a cute little blue butterfly on their backside. Nonetheless, it is an art, in which the human body is the canvas.
Having said that, I don't really care too much for tattoos, especially the huge ones that take over entire bodies (I guess I just have more conservative tastes when it comes to these things). Little ones are okay, I guess, although I can't help but wonder what people do when they're older and their skin is wrinkly if they can't afford to get them removed.
Here's a random thought: has anyone ever had a tattoo of a Rorschach inkblot on them?

I despise people who have nothing better to do but worry about the little things in life. Do you really care why people have tattoos? Or are you secretly wanting one. You can do it. Just go get one.
I personally have one. My tattoo is in remembrance of two people I love very much.
For those saying its to look tough or the person has low self esteem. Go tell a biker that! I dare you!

Apparently, 60 percent of Americans have tattoos. Pretty soon, those without tattoos will be unique. You can't despise everyone just because of tattoos, for pretty soon you'll be all alone (except for me, because I think they're pretty silly and wouldn't want one, but I can't control other people).

This can be answered two ways:
1. On the part of the tattooed persons, it might just be their way of expressing their uniqueness - their self manifestation.
2. On your part, the reason you are asking is that you are not bred, brought up in an environment where tattoos are commonplace or acceptable.
In short, cultural and/or individual differences.

I don't really like them, but a lot of people do, so be it.
I do want to point out something to anyone who might read this...when I was in school my teacher was discussing tattoos and he told us we should never get one over our heart or other major organs because tattoo ink blocked the ability for x-rays to show up correctly...just something to think about.

Heck that makes the both of us.
I never really liked the idea of tattoos, aesthetically pleasing as it may be but I'm just not good with pain that combined with fear of needles... no thank you lol!
Reason could probably be the same way others choose body piercings, coloring their hair or dressing in punk/ goth gear - it's their prerogative.
Though we should never disregard these people who choose to appear a certain way as "bad" or "evil", they're just regular people with a discerning way of expressing themselves.

We have them because we like them. I have 4 of them and each one of them is in some way symbolic of something that is important to me. I agree that a person can have too many of them or put them in places that are not so appropriate such as the face. But that's a person's choice and who am I to judge?

I was sorta mostly anti-tattoo until the 2nd June after we lost our son. The cemetery and the wreck site both are always covered in green and blue flourescent dragonflies... Went to Kentucky for a break , heading to go play BINGO and decided to go to the Tattoo parlour instead. Guy drew the dragonfly i had on paper and tattoo'd it (covering a chickenpox scar) on the back of my shoulder. My tattoo represents the freedom those dragonflies have, that my son has now. I miss u Kenny.
