It's possible, but much like the cd replacing the floppy, it'll take a while for the market to be saturated enough that you can get rid of the former technology. If I send you an SD card in the mail, you may not have a reader built in and may have to get an external one (with USB technology, of course, this isn't very expensive as compared to external dvd/cd drives).

Another issue will be the fact that the media itself is more expensive. You can buy a spindle of 100 CDs and give copies of pictures to all your friends (I've done this a few times), but buying them each an SD card is cost prohibitive. So perhaps the cards will be good for personal back ups, but not for distribution.

One final note, we're not quite sure yet what the lifespan is on solid-state media. That's why in large companies where backups matter, they're still using tape drives. SD cards and other media cards will not see corporate exposure for a long time. (Unless maybe there's a problem discovered with USB drives where they corrupt your data after 5 years or something, then perhaps it'll shift for day to day business stuff.)

For one ingredient, they positioned on out swifter. for yet another, maximum persons are reluctant to interchange their collections of CDs and DVDs, having been gathering them for 10+ years. for yet another, the CD and DVD format is extra low-value and extra everlasting. Flash drives and such could be wiped out. guard a CD, even however, and it will final an entire life.

no way, DVD's are going into BlueRay and HD formats these day's and in the future CD's are going to be useless as flash drives and DVD's take over.
