I have a Fix Or Repair Daily (FORD).... It is a 2002 Mustang V6 3.8.

Other than the obvious of the car not starting what can cause this pump to go bad, and how do I know it could be going bad.

I have had to forceably reset the emergency button to the pump 2 days ago because my car would not start.

I need someone who knows about this type of thing. Oh and no Smart a**** people please

Have the fuel pressure checked it could be a bad pump or a dirty filter. Personally I would replace the filter first. As for the emergincy cut-off switch sometimes they get weak and need replacing (not oftin though). I have tripped them by kicking the rear bumper and tripping the airbag by jacking with the front bumper

very high mileage would wear the pump down. If the next time it doesn't start, try spraying carb. cleaner into the intake system and have someone start the car. If it starts,it's a fuel problem. If it doesn't start,it's a no spark problem. Check the crank sensor and/or cam sensor. The cam sensor is known to fail. If none of this is the problem, it could be the ECM. If you tried jumpstarting the car,you might have fried the ECM.

OK, it's the inertia switch. It has a magnet in it and a cone that has a ball in it. If the car tips over, the ball falls to the magnet and breaks the switch contact in the cone. The enertia switch is bad. The magnet is too close to the ball bearing and when it hits a bump, the magnet is picking it up. You can cut both wires and crimp them together to bypass.

the button in your trunk only pops and needs to be reset when you get hit in the rear of your car sometimes when people know about this they can actually kick your rear bumper and cause that reset button to pop.
