I am a college student who worked in a middle school for the past month. One student really bonded with me this past year and is going on to high school. Because of him, I want to become a teacher. What is a good book to give him?

Johnathan Livington Seagull, I think printed in 1973

If you can find this second hand, hard copy it will have some value and it truly is an inspirational book about a seagull who needs to get back to its flock and the journey it takes. This was passed around my cousins and I when it came out (male and female, some avid readers, some not) and I wished I had kept it then.

It depends on what the young man is interested in. There is one book that may be too young for him called Dave at Night. It's about a boy who is taken to an orphanage by his step mother and the adventures he has after sneaking out and hanging with an old black man. It is a very good story and has humor and adversity at the same time. Another idea is an autobiography/biography of his favorite sports hero...Tom Sawyer is always a total hit, if he hasn't read it. Again, depends on where he lives etc. You know him better than we do. Maybe try Barnes and Noble and see what they recommend.

Depends on his personality. If you really want to make an impact on his life and believe that he is smart enough to be given such knowledge. I would introduce him with some of Ayn Rand's books. Then Plato, Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and then Robert Green; the art of seduction and the 48 laws of power. Some of Ross Jeffries products would be nice as well. If he is smart enough, he would use these tools as an insight to the real world and find himself.

Try "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. It also makes a great graduation gift. Don't let the fact that it's by Dr. Seuss deter you. It is a wonderful book! Glad you connected with a student.

The Giver by Lois Lowry, its symbolic of that.

Thats really cool that you want to give back and show him what an impact he made on you, most adults are too prideful to do that.

Well I think Harry Potter is an excellent choice.(You can tell by my nickname) But if you don't like that sort of thing, then I suggest anything written by Robert Frost. He is an incredible poet.
