This question is not meant to offend anyone, so I'm sorry if it does. I'm just trying to pose philosophical dilemma:
If Heaven is to be defined as "eternal bliss and happiness", as many religions define it, wouldn't eventually become a boring and meaningless place?
Think about it... having everything you want... for *all* of eternity!
Just as silence becomes meaningless without sound, wouldn't the concept of happiness become meaningless and irrelevant if you don't feel anymore sadness?
If there's no black, there's no white, if there's no happiness, there's no sadness... do you agree?

A world without effort or suffering sounds pretty Hellish to me.
What do you think?

Good job. You've taken the first step.

heaven is hell, yet so many people spend their entire lives hoping to end up there.

There is a verse that says the wicked shall do wickedly but the wise shall understand. -Bible this pertains a number of things at the end of time, one of which is an understanding of how things will be. thieves will not break through and steal; that suits me fine.

We can say nobody really wants to murder, stealing is unnecessary, nobody really wants to lie. These things make our lives hell and inconvience us tremendously. We can live without these things now. But we don't because we can not avoid sinning. So we lack control of even our own selves.

Scriture says we will plant vineyards... build houses. and of course we will worship God. Every nation shall be in the new kingdom scripture says. That is part of the meaning of life, we are here to be cultured, so that there will be diversity in heaven.

So God does not want a boring heaven, but diversity and many many saved people, and no inconviences.

Also some of you have a skewed understanding of riches, it will not be the same, we feel lust or greed when we become rich on this earth because we compare ourselves to those who have nothing compared to us. But we should only want to the point of being comfortable.

Where is heaven actually "defined", as you put it. I know the bible talks about heaven (an eternal reunion with God) and hell (an eternal separation from God). I can't speak for non-christian faiths, and I respect the right of others to believe in reincarnation or eternal bliss, etc. But, I have to wonder whether or not heaven as a place of clouds/virgins/eternal happiness actually exists? I think getting to know God through scripture (and the fulfillment of scripture through Jesus Christ earthly ministry) gives us a more realistic "picture" of what heaven can be. Certainly, some people that answered this question are likely to miss out on God's abundant love and forgiveness for our earthly sins - and that is a tragedy. God created all of us in His image, and wouldn't he want us to treat him as a loving father even when we don't understand his intentions for our lives? I don't understand what eternity holds for me, but I trust that it will be beyond all of my expectations! How great is it that we have mysteries to ponder still, how boring it would be to know everything.

the reason there is so much hellish suffering and despair is
simple. GOD is testing our faith and belief in HIM. The greatest reward of any person to person relationship is understanding that everyone is here for a reason and we all play a small part in each other's lives. GOD would love to see peace on earth but as it has been written, Satan will not rest with the wicked until GOD has bid a final farewell to evil...hence the reason that heaven can't possibly become what you might think.

Firefox, I love your thought process, however my thoughts are that Heaven is to each of us our own. So while silly willy is content listening to his ipod 24/7, perhaps heaven to me is a spiritual debate amongst intellectually challenging people. Or maybe heaven should be for me tending to all the animals awaiting their masters from the rainbow bridge or whatever. Since I don't have a clear conceptual view of heaven, I like my idea. In my heaven you would work, you would generally just be doing the work you should have been doing all the time (therefore autistics are doing brainiac level teaching and I'm tending animals)

This question can't really be answered unless you know what heaven is like. There are an infinite number of questions with no answers. Is there such a thing as reincarnation? Maybe we have the option to stay in heaven, or come back to Earth. With that option, heaven wouldn't be that bad.

the real thing is that not all of us go to heaven. where did God put our first parents? was it in heaven? no. they were placed here on earth to do some work. they have to spread the beauty of paradise that was already made for them in the garden of eden.it was just when aatan the devil destroys the perfect plan when he seduced eve into rebellion with God, posing the cunning argument that God did not wanted them to eat the "apple" because it would make them like god also. with that satan questions God's authority to rule over mankind. soon God will put and end to satan's undoing and those who prove loyal to God's original purpose and will submit to His divine provision will be blessed with a life similar to what adam and eve has had in the beginning. only a few number would go to heaven, those who are proven capable of it through God's acknowledgment and recognition to be with Jesus who will rule the new world under God's loving provision. all evils will be shun. if God can do everything, why would you think life with Him will be boring? Okay, we're talking about heaven, yeah, even heaven, i don't even think so. if that's the case, we should have angels join us here because you think life on this ailing earth is more enjoyable? Think about it...

existence isn't completely meaningless counting on the way you seem at it. The cycle that you said isn't a similar cycle that truly everyone else. i think like the that technique of existence is to make existence better relaxing for destiny generations and better appropriate for individuals in different international locations. see you later as we save transferring ahead, the beliefs of such issues as celeb Trek will come real ultimately. we are able to not provide up and say existence is incomprehensible until eventually we a minimum of attempt to augment our international and the overall public who've given up have not performed this.

Heaven is not really getting everything you want and at the same time it is. The realization comes in the fact that your wants change. All of a sudden you no longer want for you.

Digest that and maybe you will understand why heaven cannot be boring.

I agree completely.
But, if humanly emotions like Happiness are purely human- going to heaven would be complete emptiness... a feeling no one can even describe.
It's like explaning what "Nothing" is. You think of nothing as darkness- but darkness is absense of light, that is something. Nothing is absolutely nothing- not a color, a tangable thing.
Do you understand?
So basically, if heaven is true, its basically the same as being "dead". No feelings, no happiness, no sadness.
At least that's what I think.
