You probably need freeon--it is a few dollars for a can-you can buy it at walmart. Read the directions carefully or find someone who knows how to put it in for you. You'll probably need a couple cans. If that doesn't work take it to the shop.

There are so many possible problems that you really should take it to a repair shop to diagnose it. Possible problems include:
1. Low on freon
- this means you have a leak somewhere, you need to fix it
- mechanics have a dye they put into the system to find the leak
2. One of the switches is not working and it just never kicks on
- 2 or 3 of those to check
3. Your condensor is bad and needs replaced (found with the dye)
4. Your compressor is bad and needs replaced (pray it's not this one, this is expensive)
5. other possibilities exist, seek professional help.
6. If your car is still under warranty, this is covered in the "bumper to bumper" section and should be fixed for free from the dealer - this is a BIG IF.... IF
- mileage and length of ownership apply here, you are probably just over, or just about to be over.

Low refrigerant level due to leak or blend air door on HVAC unit not cycling from heat to cold.
See if an A/C shop or Goodwrench dealer will test charge level for free first.
Some parts stores sell an A/C recharge kit. make sure you are getting the CORRECT refrigerant for your car (most likely R-134a) and not Freon (It's been banned tdue to eco reasons anyway)
The recharge kits come with a pressure gage to read the refrig pressure level. The correct level will be inside you owner manual.
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, A/C SYSTEMS ARE HIGH PRESSURE !!
IF doing a recharge doesnt work then you may have a leak in your system which means a trip to the reapir shop to find the leak a replace hoses condensors, etc.

Turn on the defroster and see if the radiator fan comes on. If it does, look at the A/C compressor. If it isn't running (I'm willing to bet it isn't) then your A/C system is low on refrigerant. Check all of your A/C lines for rubs or chafes in the rubber or oily residue around the crimps. This will guide you to your defective hose. Replace it, vaccum the system, add an ounce or two of ester oil, and recharge. By the way, for all who don't know....Free-on was the brand name for R-12 refrigerant, not what's in the system. The A/C system uses refrigerant, not "freon".

refrigderant has leaked out likely at a O ring connection somewhere in the system. Possibly any frontend collision may have caused this. Freon is the old coolant. your vechile should be 134A which doesn't have as much cooling capacity as Freon but is friendlier to the ozone.

must have a leak in your A/C system. Freon doesn't go empty unless your condenser or other A/C parts have a hole/leak. Adding more Freon would be a waste because it won't hold it in the system. Check it for leaks before adding freon.

you would have to charge it up with freeon and put dye in it to locate were the leak is coming from. you need special tools to do this job. So find somewhere cheap to take your car.
