32/37 city/highway or 32/39 on a manual depending on the engine, 31/38 with an automatic. Users on the fueleconomy.gov Web site have reported an average of just above 34 mpg, which is just below the combined 35 mpg predicted from an average of 55 percent city and 45 percent highway driving.

The Civic is a more minimalist car, but very reliable. A few of my friends and I have evolved into Honda Civic fans. I've never put so little money into a car as my 1999 Civic with 183K miles on it. Buy American? Who are these strange people?! 'sigh!' Been there, done that, got over it with the piss poor quality and no one American makes a car model that I want. My last American car was an '87 T-bird Turbocoupe. Loved the car to death, but hated the unreliability and expense. :-p I don't buy something I don't want. If they can make a car as good as the non-union made Honda Civic then I'll think about it otherwise let the freemarket seal their fate!

You've got to be kidding me with 23. Just guessing here that it should get a lot closer to 30. I don't know for sure though.
