To declare our independance from Britain. The Declaration stated the reasons why the thirteen colonies were freeing themselves from British Rule.
Just read the ideals part of the declaration. It tells u pretty much why in more detail.

For such a silly on line name, you come up with a genuine question, weird. the founding fathers declared their Independence from England to start what we know now as the United States.

This document is exactly what the title says. In a US sense, it was the weathly land owners of the thirteen original colonies telling Great Britain they did not want to be "ruled" anymore. Think of you telling your parents you don't want them to be your parents anymore and you're going it alone. Of which I do not recommend....
