In theory, it could damage your computer if it got too hot. But it's not uncommon for a laptop that is charging to get very warm. I've owned three Dells that could melt your lap and they've worked just fine.

Usually there is a fan that will kick in if it gets too hot.

The short answer, Yes.

The longer more helpful answer: possibly

Laptops are designed not to overheat. However, If you were to put tape over the vents or otherwise prevent airflow into and out of the case there is a distinct possibility that you will damage your processor, motherboard or other expensive parts of your laptop.

After market hard drive upgrades carry this possibility as well. The hard drive may generate too much heat for the laptop to dissipate causing it to over heat.

Yes it will damage your processor. But of course they also have fans to lessen the heat so place your laptop on an even surface and never cover or put something on the exhaust.

Possibly. It depends on the heat.

I do not suggest leaving your laptop inside a hot car. That will for sure **** it up.

If you're concerned about its operating temp, go to the computer store and get a cooling pad for it. Also, if you are worried that the cooling fans inside the laptop aren't getting the job done, take it to a pro.

if your laptop gets hot the proccessor is heating up/ or being over worked
thats bad
since laptops dont have their own fans to cool off the processor you should probably close some applications or turn off the computer

Most definitely YES, but the heat will first affect the optical drive on your laptop (DVD or CDR), then the battery, then the rest comes afterwards.
I recommend that you download a software that monitors your system, and you can customize the fan (for cooling) speed.
Its called FanSpeed. Its free.
go to www.download.com and search for it.

it should shut off automatically before it gets hot enough to do damage... if this starts happening, you should take it in to get the fans/heat sink cleaned. (don't keep using it if it starts shutting off... could cause damage.)

It depends on how hot. They do generate heat and do get pretty warm. If you are concerned have somebody look at it.

No, it just means that all your systems are working if you want it to cool down, then leave it alone for a couple minutes.
