well, if you're already dialating, you're getting there! Be excited a little! I was 3 cm one Wednesday at 36 weeks and I had her the following Tuesday. EVerybody is different. For me, when I was dialating, I had cramps kinda like my period so this is how I knew I was progressing. I also felt some pressure down there which could only have been contractions. They say "when you do, you'll know" as far as labor, but that isn't necessarily true until later.

The biggest thing people who had had babies said to me was "you feel uncomfortable". This is totally the case...you can't sit, stand, walk, etc without feeling somewhat uncomfortable. I would describe it the same way.

Don't be scared about the labor--it really isn't what people make it out to be. ITs not a walk in the park, either, but when you see your little one, there is nothing like it in life. The best thing you can do for pain management and for your sanity is to relax, breathe deep and- be excited! You're about to have a baby!

(by the way, my sister-in-law has a very low pain tolerance and she says frequently that she would do the whole labor part all over again in a heart beat but she wouldn't enjoy the pregnancy)

It is VERY natural and normal to have worries about giving birth. It is a Lil scary to. You will have BAD pains but, I PROMISE AS SOON AS the baby is out A lot of that pain stops right then. During the pushing even if you have pain meds you will feel a strong pressure MOSTLY in your bottom like a horrible bowel movement. Once the head crowns you may feel a burning and pulling pressure pains. I am going to have my 3rd I WOULD not even try it WITHOUT pain meds. Once you see the baby you will feel SO MUCH better. After birth cramps can be bad and you can get pain meds for that also. Women have done this since time started and it will happen and you will do wonderful.

Know that your body can deliver the baby without your help;-) Your body was designed to give birth and is very good at it...you will see. I would suggest going to the library and finding the book called "The Birth Book" by Sears (author's last name NOT the store;-). This book really explains how the body works to give birth. It also explains what an average labor is like and what the different stages can consist of. This is really a fantastic book and I know it would help you out a great deal.
The best thing you can do is to try and not be scared or panic during labor. Know that the sensations you feel are helping to birth your baby and that they are natural. They are not pains because you are hurt or dying....they are good pains. Once you are holding that baby you will quickly forget about all that you went through....remind me of that this December;-) when I am delivering my third;-)
May God bless you and keep you, sweetie. Please get the book and read it! I promise it will help.

relax, take a deep breath. Now, have some worm milk or something and take a nap. You're going to need your rest. If you took Lamaze classes use what you learned. If you didn't then just focus on a point out in front of you and breath easy. If they offer you drugs and it sounds like a good idea then take it. Nothing wrong with that. The whole, "women should be able to give birth without drugs because it's the natural way" was something a man thought up.
Listen to your Dr. and Good luck. You'll do fine, I'm sure.
now go take that nap!

When it happens you are going to notice a "feeling" in your body. There will be lots of pressure and cramping. The pain will get worse and better throughout the labor. But remember at the end of all the pain and screaming is the cutest little baby that you made. It is so worth all the pain and stretch marks. Good luck!!!

Don't be scared. You can endure much more than you think you can. I was scared when I had my son 3 years ago and once it was all over I was beyond happy. I tried to do it natural but I had to get an epidural because my son was trying to come out face up and his head was rubbing on my spine. After the epidural, it was easy street.

You won't remember the pain a month after the birth. You'll be fine.

i handled contractions very well. i suggest getting some sort of medication, even if it's something small. all i got was something to relax me and it helped a lot. the contractions usually get pretty painful by about 8-9cm, but once you start pushing it feels better hun. i was scared before i had my son too, but for some reason when my water broke and i knew it was time, i wasn't scared anymore. i was just ready for it.
good luck! i'm sure you'll do just fine!
