It is complex, but a very simple interpretation is . . . Man is just an insignificant speckle in the big picture.

One meaning in the book, given in the title, is that black people are "invisible" to white people in the USA; white people don't really "see" them as being human.
Now that has its upside as well as its obvious downside. for if you're "invisible" you can get away with a lot.
