Because all people have values, morals, beliefs etc. based on what they have been taught and their life experience. - Usually we believe ours to be correct & the other persons to be wrong and we make those pre-judgments based on the above.

If there were an easy answer to that question there probably wouldn't be any of either. My parents and brother and sister are both. I am neither. I judge people by the way they treat me as an individual, not as a mass. Did you see the movie Crash? I think it is an excellent movie. It's troubling at times, but it touches on some serious issues.

Racism is learned behaviour and it probably starts in the home. It is like a snowball rolling down hill and ignorant parents beget ignorant children. Sad though it is, you have to have a license to operate a car, open a popcorn stand, own a cat or dog, but any two idiots can have children!!!!

Partly its what people grew up with: If they grew up around racist or predjudiced people, chances are, they will also be racist and/or predjudiced.
The other part of this is that humans are, sadly, predisposed to be suspicious of people who are different from themselves. Maybe this is a remnant of when we were monkeys and had to fight for food and avoid predators etc., suspicion could have meant you lived another day...
