The vinyl siding on my house suffered damage from a wind and hail storm. My homeowners insurance company is not willing to replace the siding but have it "patched" by a company called Dr. Vinyl. Does anyone have any information on this or is anyone aware of any problems that have come up with this process? Have Dr. Vinyl's customers been satisfied with the repair?

Another option to find out about that company is to ask your Better Business Bureau. Usually insurance companies have a low-bid contractor they use. Patching siding on a house is a temporary measure...not long term...another storm and that "patch" will need to be repatched. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear of of your siding damage but hope this helps. Hail storms normally affect a portion of a residence and not all sides. That being said your insurance company sounds as if they will replace a portion of the affected hence the term "patch". There is no effective way to "patch" a product that is extruded in a factory. I can only assume that your insurance company wants to replace a percentage of the affected side. If this is the case and they don't want to replace the entire side ask them to have their recommended contractor bring a sample of the product they propose to use in the repair to you for your inspection along side the old siding. If the match is close and you can live with it then all's well. However if the match is starkly different ask the insurance adjustor to re-inspect the sample pice alongside the balance of the siding to see if he/she agrees that the match is not close enough.
You might want to request the replacement of the entire damaged side of the home which is a compromise of sorts. With the replacement of one entire side no one inspecting the home will be able to discern the difference in tone on the one replaced side.
There is nothing you nor your insurance company can do that will mimic the fading caused by sun exposure. Insurance companys only owe to replace the damages with material of a LKQ(Like kind and quality) in otherwords vinyl siding for vinyl, alum. siding for alum. siding and 8" siding for 8" siding or 4" siding for 4" siding. Nothing in your policy specifies that sun fading has to be matched. Another alternative repair involves removing the siding from a detached outbuilding or garage and use the removed siding to repair the home and just replace the siding on the outbuilding or detached garage which will save the insurance company money versus replacing all the home's siding and just about insure that your siding will match on the home.
Finally, please note that NO INSURANCE COMPANY can compel you to use any particular contractor. It is Illegal ! Secure 2nd and 3rd estimates from other contractors. I understand that contractors might be few and far between during a large scale weather related catastrophe but hang in there.

Dr. Vinyl is a franchise operation... that means you are most likely going to see a local business show up to do your work... ask your insurance provider for the number of the company they are going to have do the actual work, not just the franchise name. Then call the number and ask for references... go out and look at past work they have done.

I will tell you this... to replace the siding, you would have to replace practically all of it, not just the damaged sections, because you would not be able to get the color to match, if your existing siding has been on for more than a month. That is most likely why your insurance provider has decided to goto this style of repair.
