Selling out is starting out with an image and then changing to make money. Meaning selling out. People say greenday sold out by making catchy poppy songs. However long before blvd of broken dream and wake me up when september ends there was the song TIME OF YOUR LIFE. But hey i think the definition of punk is breaking the rules doing somethign extreme. And for being in the punk genre and playing at punk clubs that was the most balls out thing they could do... write a ballad.

However they did sell out when they went to a major label. The major label made them alot more money than staying in the underground scene.

People say metallica sold out when they all cut their hair. they said that they did it to attract a a new crowd and not be a hair band or to get away from the greaser crowd. NO WAY. The only thing metallica sells out is every seat of every show they put on.

ignore the other posts, they don't know what you mean. ppl who are sell out are bias againt their own kind, everyone think green day are bias against natural rockers...............i think being a sell out is just a way ppl can get others to join in with the insulting of another................all the other answers listed above are about sell outs financially not morally.

to be a sell out means that you were different and when something came around you always didn't like. and all of a sudden you're all into it, then you become a sell out!
