Why is homosexuality now considered a mental disorder?

After decades of phsychiatrists not promoting homosexuality as a disorder the pentagon is now saying it is, why?

The pentagon is out of step with current medical and psychiatric treatment on this.
As with so much in this administration - I see a political purpose in this decision.

Sorry, sweetie--your head is almost too far up your butt for the light of understanding to reach you--but, in fact, homosexuality is NOT a mental disorder or mental illness, and is NOT a psychological or behavioral pattern associated with distress or disability; AND, when it occurs in an individual, homosexuality IS a part of normal development and culture. Or, to quote from the American Psychological Association position statement on homosexuality of December 1973: "Homosexuality per se implies no impairment in judgement, stability, reliability, or general social or vocational capabilities; further, the American Psychological Association urges all mental health professionals to take the lead in removing the stigma of mental illness that has long been associated with homosexual orientations." I shall be very sorry if this answer does not offend you.

The Pentagon needs to pick up a DSM-IV TR. The American Psychiatric Association eliminated homosexuality as a mental disorder YEARS ago.

As a rule of thumb, something is considered a mental disorder if it interferes with normal functioning. Last time I checked, homosexuals were able to work, socialize, eat, sleep, and go about their daily activities.

It sounds a lot like propaganda to me.

because people/society see it as a "problem" and therefore society needs to "cure the problem"... therefore, we must bill someone for the "treatment of the problem".. but how do we bill someone for this if there is no "label"??? so therefore, now, we must label it "a mental disorder" because the only place to get treatment for this "problem" is at a mental health clinic...

and all the administrative prick$ at the mental health clinics are out for are money, money and prestige. no one gives a rat's *** that when you label someone "homosexual" or "depressed" or "anxious" or (and this one I REALLY HATE!!) "adhd" that they are STUCK WITH THAT LABEL forever... forever and forever... there are records.. paper chains, with this LABEL on it.

There has to be records, for the @#$*&%% treatment of the #@!#$% problem so that we can BILL SOMEONE TO PAY FOR MORE UNNEEDED TREATMENT of problems that don't really EXIST in the FIRST PLACE!!!!!

Also think about this.. people become what they are labeled. Because they have to identify with something. Everyone needs a REASON of why life, which is all it is, is happening to them!!! "oh yes, well, I didn't get a job, and didn't work for the last three years, and didn't open my mail, and got a divorce and lost my job because I have been depressed!"

because we're living under a fascist, fundamentalist regime? Also, I'm really not sure considering it a mental disorder is the party line at the pentagon. Look at it this way, though: shouldn't everyone else get a say on who your sexual partners are? Next you'll be telling me which minorities I'll get to beat up.

According to the DSM IV (the manual in which diagnosis is made for mental health disorders) there is no mental disorder for homosexuality. It is simply a lifestyle.

Mind you, there are homosexuals within the pentagon hierarchy.
