There is no system in place to test herbal supplements for the claims they make, nor is there any system in place to guarantee they contain what they claim to contain. You can grind bluegrass from your yard, place it in a capsule and call it an herbal remedy, make tons of money because you've got testimonials from all of your friends and neighbors that it straightened the problem right out. Unless there is true scientific proof, testimonials are the same as the ten different stories you'll hear from ten people watching a robbery. You figure it out.

DSHEA The Dietary Supplement Health Education Act of 1994 is the reason for this. It gives the FDA broad but sufficient power to regulate any claims made about Nutritional Supplements or any dietary supplement for that matter. For this reason NO Dietary Supplement can make the claim of Treating , Curing , Mitigating, or Preventing any disease. If such claims are made that company can be sued by the FDA or the FTC( Federal Trade Commission) and that company's products can be seized. This was all orchestrated by Lobbyists on Capital Hill who were paid to do that by the Pharmaceutical Companies. You can't patent plants that God put down here thousands of years ago. So the Pharmaceutical Companies get their people into Congress to try to stop their Number One Competitors. Even if the claims by Natural Alternatives are backed by SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE done by very credible 3rd party sources in the Field of Medicine BY LAW you CANNOT make that claim or you will be sued. So disclaimers have to be put on Herbal supplements or the FDA will have the product pulled from the shelf. There are Bills being proposed now to stop this one sided biasness against the Natural Supplement Industry. Because with each passing day more and more evidence is coming to light about the effectiveness of Alternative Medicine and the deady side effects of prescription drugs which incidentally is the FOURTH leading cause of death in America surpassed only by Heart Disease,Cancer, and Medical Malpractice(big surprise). So smear campaigns are becoming more childish and ineffective so now all that is left is to discern the Science and the Facts.

If any drug or supplement that is produced states that it can cure something or be a miracle drug it has to be approved by the FDA. The company doesn't want to spend the money on getting it approved or tested. So normally those products do not always work.

Depending on the supplement, you need to watch out for what you take. Unless the product is HIGHLY recommended by someone you know. Then you need to show your doctor and he/she will explain if it is worth it. Trust me. I have tried some "natural supplements" that got me sick.
Basically it means is not approved by the FDA to cure or treat any disease. They are not allowed to claim this on the label.

You guys must not know of Tahitian Noni Juice. It is in the PDR and is an all natural fruit juice. It has zero side affects. There are scientific and medicinal studies being performed all over the world on this product with amazing results. Anyone who wants info and specific case studies let me know. I work very closely with one of the Doctors heading up the research.

because the FDA (food and drug administration) has not evaluated any herbal supplements, therefore cannot approve or deny them for official use

The government has not got their hands on the whole market yet and if they do you probably won't be able to purchase tea or coffee without a prescription>Hope that is enough to get you started.

the petrochemical byproducts they approve make a lot more money for them(dispite any side effects)than those pure natural ones.its just a devious way to discredit anything that might reduce their profits.after all its not a "drug"if its been approved is it !x
