This site will give you all the info you need! Basically, the conflicts in Northern Ireland and The Republic or Ireland (Eire) are of a religious reason. In Northern Ireland you mostly have protestants and in the Republic you have the catholics. The conflicts started in the 17th century but what you hear now, it is mostly because the Northern Ireland wants to be part of the United Kingdom and the Eire wants to stay it's own country. So they have conflicts over their religion, over their lands and over cultural differences...
