Yellow is just another shade of green!!!!
JK - yellow means slow down, and stop if possible to me. Not sure how the driver's manual technically defines it, but you could look it there.
P.S. Your mom was right.....she stopped because she had the ability to.

Well, in Driver's Ed you will learn a thing called "The Point of No Return". Yes, technically a yellow light means to slow down if you cannot cross the intersection in time because a red light is coming. But, there are times when you should stop and times when you shouldn't. This is determined by the "Point of No Return."
Basically, The Point of No Return is an imaginary line that you are supposed to gauge, based on how fast you are traveling, what point you would be able to stop at in time if the light were to turn yellow and you would try to stop. The rule is that if the light turns yellow and you are past that point of no return, you keep going. If you are before it then you obviously can stop and you should stop in time for the light.
Beginning drivers take time to learn how to gauge distances, so this might not be an easy way to gauge for beginners, but anyone who has been driving for some time can easily gauge where they will and won't be able to stop their vehicle at certain speeds for a light.
BTW - if anyone ever COULD and DOES get pulled over for being in the middle of an intersection while the light is yellow, but you couldn't stop SAFELY in time, I would gladly think the police officer would be sane enough to let you go or not stop you in the first place (I have never heard of that happening before). The whole point of having a point of no return "rule" is to know when to safely stop. If you're going to have to slam on the brakes in order to stop for the yellow light you just saw, you would probably cause more harm than good rather than just getting through it. Not only is it unsafe for you but someone behind you could smash into you and all that bad stuff. Hence, Point of No Return.

RE:
What does the yellow traffic light mean?
Hey guys =)
What does the yellow traffic light mean? My mom says that it means to 'slow down', but I believe that it just means that a red light is coming, and if you cannot cross the intersection in time then to slow down.
We were going down a road and when we were almost to the...

It means that you must stop if it is safe to do so, because the light will soon by red. So, for instance, if you are at the intersection, travelling 35 miles an hour and it turns yellow, you obviously should just continue at the same speed. But, if you were travelling slowly and a few yards from the intersection, you should stop at the intersection, even if you might be able to make it through.

It means to be careful. If you have time to stop you should but if you can't then go through the light. Although lots of people seem to think that it doesn't mean anything at all....

If you are in the middle of the intersection and the light is yellow you can get pulled over. If it turns yellow and your in the middle then go faster.
