Parents usually feed their children much longer than in the States. (Some kids are 3 and don't know how to eat by themselves.) Chinese kids are not encouraged to eat with their hands because they are taught that hands are dirty, so therefore you should not touch your food with your hands. Many children learn to use a spoon first. Chopsticks are introduced pretty early, although not usually until 4.

I have seen mothers feed them with chopsticks. I have also seen children who were old enough to feed themselves.. 2 and 3 using chopsticks! I was so .. in awe! I couldnt use chopsticks til I was 17 haha.
