It depends on the restaurant and what sort of mood I'm in. Even at the same restaurant, I often try different things each time that I go. Just never anything with beef for me... The most common thing I get is probably some kind of salad.

Always order one of the specials. If you haven't had the special before It is probably a good place to try new things. They probably know what they are doing in the kitchen. I love eating at fine places and ordering new things.

I myself prefer to start with appetizer...Rumake or Crab Cakes, sometimes I have a simple shrimp cocktail..I always have Green Godess dressing on my romain and Iceberg...for the main course, If I feel the need for meat, I will have a South American Ribeye or Steak Oscar with Bernaise and Asparagas...French Baked Potato with Sour Cream and FRESH chives.. If I feel like bird, I will have Lemon Chicken on Rice Pilaf...and if I am feeling starchy...I NEVER have scampi on angel hair, I choose the Creamy Cajun Chicken...and of course, I prefer to drink Chianti therefore I usually order the steak...but IF I shoot for fish or shrimp, I'll have a Carafe of White Zin...mostly to please my date.

my favorite restaurants are Red Lobster, Outback, Chili's and TGI Fridays. They're not "fine" restaurants but casual enough for me

Depends on their specialty. If it's Italian, obviously some pasta dish. If it's a steak house, then some sort of steak or prime rib meal. Seafood, then some seafood dish.

The waiter usually have special offerings for the evening. This might spark your interest. Or simply ask the waiter to suggest a dish. No chicken please.
