i heard that The Nintendo Team is saying that you can use the gamecube controller or the Wii controller. Personally, I think that using the Wii controller for the New Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the best way to go. (EX. you know how you jump? in super smash?) In brawl, using the Wii Controller. You can just point the remote up and it'll jump! That's the least I heard. Hopefully it comes out. I'm going to get a Wii! Not to mention the new Zelda: Twilight Princess Game coming out for Wii
For that, you'd rather use the Wii Controller. GCN has one of the best controller's handling. But just only for some RPG games, you should use the Wii controller included.

Well, being the game is made for the Wii, and not the GameCube, I'm pretty sure it will be using a new type of control system that is different from both of the N64 and GameCube version of the game.
I'm sure that the GameCube slots are only there if you want to play a GameCube game,

I'm comfortable using the wiimote and nunchuck although I haven't tried the classic controller. The only thing a little strange is your hands being so far apart. But it comes pretty naturally to me, it's cool that everyone has their own way of playing. I was reading what another answerer said and I do some stuff different like < > ^ v + control stick quickly for the smash moves ^ to jump Wow I can't wait until spring break when I actually have free time to try everything!!

Wii will feature the normal controller, which is the one that looks like a remote control for a television, but it will also feature a classic style controller as well as several other atachments. As for the lack of buttons I am assuming that the fact that the controller has a motion sensor you won't need as many buttons, but that is just a guess.
