well what year? assuming you have r134a, you need to 1st recover whatever amount of freon you have left . then need to recharge it with tracer dye & try to locate the problem. if that doesn't happen, you may not find the source. also why do you need freon? does it blow warm? are you sure you're low on freon & don't have a componenet(s) problem. be safe & get the a/c checked by a professional.

First, you may want to find the leak. If it will remain charged for a year, then O.K. Otherwise, find the leaky line by looking for rubs or chafes or wet oil residue around the crimps. Then replace defective line, vaccum the system, add an ounce or two of ester oil, an ounce of conditioner (if it's an R-12 system)and charge with R-134a
