I have a 9 month old and am still breastfeeding...I plan on doing so until she is at least 2. If your pregnant or wondering how long you should nurse your baby for. The American Association of Pediatrics reccomends it for the first 12 months and after that whatever is mutually desired by mother and baby.

When I worked full time: 5 months, supplementing with formula.

With second child: 10 months, supplementing with formula last 2 months.

With third (and last) child: breast fed for 12 months, no supplement. She never had a bottle! She went straight to a sippie cup!

It was great, but hard at first. You get through first weeks (actually, the first 6 weeks were hard, no joke). Then it's easy as pie. Super easy and SUPER comfortable. Very good bonding.

I have four kids, my first was born with a birth defect and did not want anything to do with me, but I pumped for her for about six weeks. My second i nursed for about 13 months and my third a little longer for about 15 months and my last was a noisy eater he needed to see what was going on so he only nursed for abut 8 months. Any amount of time breastfeeding is beneficial for mom and baby whether it is one day or one year, its a personal choice. Good luck!!!

I breastfed my son's for a few weeks but my daughter I was unable to because I had a liver problem making her severely jaundice. I wish I could of feed each of them longer but I wasn't putting out enough milk (or so I thought).

My son is 22 mos and breastfeeding. The World Health Organization recommends at least two years. Personally I will most likely go longer than that. Depending on where you get your information you'll find the world average is between 2.8 and 4.2 years.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that "breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter as long as mutually desired."

My daughter will be 2 on Saturday and she is still breastfeeding.
