In many places a woman is not safe anymore, I feel carrying a gun on my person would be a good protection against violence aimed at me or rape.

I'm a former police officer, and for those of you who say "call the police" instead...you are in for a rude awakening.

IF you can call while being attacked, raped, killed, or robbed...

IF the police are not busy and can't get there within time to save you...

IF you happen to know exactly where you are, and can tell that to the police while being attacked, raped, killed, or robbed...

Theres an awful lot of "IF's" aren't there?

I was shot at twice in the line of duty, and still FIRMLY believe in the right to carry a firearm for protection. However, you should receive training with it, and practice regularly. You should also know the regulations for the state where you live. The federal regulations shouldn't come into play.

If your interested in owning a firearm go to a reputable gun dealer and speak to them. There are firearms made specifically for womens smaller hands. They may even offer safety & training classes.

While there are instances where firearms are taken away from the victim, there are also numerous instances where the dirtbag was shot & injured/killed. If you plan on carrying a firearm make sure your trained, AND if you pull out make sure you have the balls to use it...if not, then it could very well be taken and used against you. If you have problems killing someone who is attacking you then don't...however, if you don't have a problem with it then...lock & load. Good luck.

Before you decide to carry a gun, you need to ask yourself a few questions.
1) Is it lawful in the state that you reside, to carry a concealed weapon?
2) Do you have a FOID card. I believe it is federal law to have a FOID card before you can purchase a gun?
3) Have you had any training on the use of a firearm?
4) Do you know that you would be able to use a weapon at the moment of truth, or would an attacker be able to disarm you and use your own weapon on you ?

There are alternatives to a hand gun. Mace or pepper spray can be just as effective at discouraging an attack, if you are able to apply the element of surprise on your attacker.

Think about some of the things that I've mentioned, before you decide if a gun is the right weapon of choice, for you.

Hello, dearie. I can see why you'd be concerned, if you carry your online attitude into the real world. I must say, your answer to my rice feeder question was a delight to read. If you are still keen on reporting me, I live in Utah County, Utah. Call the health department, they know me well. My name's Nicole and my son is Jack.

In answer to your question, I think guns cause more harm than good. After all, even though you might not be able to choke someone on them, you can definitely shoot someone and that isn't very healthy for them, either. :D

It depends on where you live. If you keep all your doors and windows locked and live in a fairly well lit and peaceful area, it wouldn't make much sense. Just be careful of your associates and people you have over. After all, the attackers are more often the victims friends and acquaintances than complete strangers.

It's a personal choice that you must make for yourself. I favor the rights of individuals to own a firearm for personal protection. However, I firmly believe you should take some classes in how to use the gun safely. If you carry it with you, make sure you consult the local law enforcement agency to see if you need a permit to carry the weapon with you.

Unless you are trained well in how to shoot a gun and have no problem shooting to kill DO NOT have a gun at all. All that is going to happen is that gun is going to end up being used on you. In most casses a gun that is used to kill a person is the one that was pulled out to use for their own protection, if you have a gun you cannot have any hesitation at all, you have to shoot and shoot to KILL first shot, not questions asked, if you cannot do that you have no business owning a gun at all, buy some pepper spray insted

I'd say it depends on several factors. Do you have any experience with a gun? Would you be willing to go to safety classes? Do you have any children in the house? How serious are you about taking care of it and being safe with it? Having a gun means serious responsibility. Children get killed all the time because an adult was careless enough to leave them our or forget that children could get to them.

I think if you were serious enough, you could get one. I think it would be good if all women could carry them as long as they were careful with them, and didn't get hotheaded or anything.

I would check with my local laws and see about getting a concealed handgun liscense. This will keep you out of a lot of trouble. You cant just shoot someone because you think they are a threat. The use of lethal force has to be justified. Even if you are in your own home. I keep a handgun by my bed, but I am aware of the circumstances of which I am justified in using it. I'm from Texas. In Texas, if someone breaks into your house, you can shoot them and be justified. However, I lived in Maryland for 2 years. Their laws are very much different. You can shoot someone who broke into your house, and still be charged with a crime. It is best to check your states gun laws.

while I carry a gun , I do so where it is reached very quickly.

If you can not reacha and pull it in a few seconds it does you know good.

And unless you are good with one, a pistol is of no help either.

They make purses that carry pistols in a holder on the side, where you can reach it in seconds.

But the best defense is to live smart, stay away from alot of dangeroius areas, always go places with friends and so on

Only if you take proper training. A gun in untrain hands can get very messy. Your other alternative is to bring along a 600 lbs gorilla as a deterent (hope you don't mind a little humor). That's my take. (And btw, I am not now a got owner and never have been. I don't belong to the NRA.)

A lot of accidents happen when people carry guns. Carry a big, but very trustworthy, man with you at all times.
