Spyware can make it run slow, so it would be a good idea to get a good spyware software and run it regularly. Deleting your cookies, and temp internet files isn't a bad idea either. It could also be that your registry is corrupt, and needs to be cleaned. Invalid shortcuts, broken or lost registry files will also cause slow speeds. A good all around tool can take care of this- system mechanic 6, registry mechanic, or something to that effect. Often times when removing old programs, it will leave parts of that program on your computer, thus causing errors in the long run. IF you haven't defragmented your computer in a while it might be time to do so, also scan disk (thorough) to clean up any bad sectors on your drive. All of this can be done with the system mechanic.

Two reasons why your computer is running slow:
1. Your registry has become so big and contains a lot of unwanted entries. Buy a good registry cleaner / defragmenter for this. I recommend VCOM SystemSuite 6.
2. You have a lot of spyware in your computer. Install a spyware cleaner like spybot and clean the spywares.

People many time say that this can also happen due to defragmented disks but it happens seldom. Normally you won't see much difference in performance by defragmenting but it is also a good thing to try.

1) Scan for spyware using a free anti-spyware program like Ad-aware or Spybot Seek and Destroy. (Better yet, run both as they had different list for what they consider spyware, so one may catch something the other missed.

2) Make sure you have a least 10% of your C Hard Drive free. If not, you need to delete and copy off to a CD or floppy enough files to free up space.

3) Run a defrag. Right-click on the C drive, and go into the Tools tab. Click the Defragment now button. Be warned that if your hard drive is badly fragmented, it may take several hours for the progrm to run.

Click Start ,run, and type msconfig. Take a check out of anything that doesn't say Symentec,Mcaffee,Norton,or any program that you might want to run when the computer starts up.Click apply then ok. Restart. When you restart your computer if there is some thing you want to start when the computer starts then just put a check back in . This will only disable from start up not delete the program or functionality of it. Also try to run Scandisk and disk defragmenter.

there are so many thing that can make it run slow. the best think i can tell you to do is to get ride of every thing on it that you do not need. press "crlt+alt+del" and look at the tab marked "processes" if there is a long list of crap running close stuff in that tab and your memory should start to clear up. if not you might want to back up every thing on he computer and then format it and re install windows

Run Disk Cleanup (start--> System tools -->Disk Cleanup) and then Disk Defragmenter. That would be a start unless you have other 3rd party programs such as Norton SystemWorks.

Also, use AdAware or Spybot Search and Destroy to get rid of any adware.

Delete unused programs in your system and do daily spyware and virus checks. If it is still slow consider buying a new computer or take it to a computer store to have them do preformance matainance check.

Run spyware scans to see if there is spyware. You could have low ram or processes that take a lot of ram or cpu.

to clean your computer, you have to delete any old and/or unused files. (old emails, unsused and installed CD's) also, having less items on your desktop makes your computer run faster.
