it wasn't the bottle it was the thing i sprayed. see the spot is about the size of quarter and is wrinkled except for the small pieces that came off,and i cant find them, they fell into shagg carpet.

the good news is you were cleaning when it happened, you meant well and didnt mean to damage it. Offer to help her fix it, best to tell the truth than cover it up. Good luck and hey, its not like you set her place on fire while playing Y.Answers ;o)

Get contact cement.

lightly coat both clean surfaces with the cement in a ventilated area . let the glue dry to tacky ( 15 minutes) then carefully attach the piece to the top. Be sure because it will glue and you will have even more issues

Before coating with the glue ,dry fit the piece to get the best appearance. Make note of how you placed it to get the best fit and repeat that when you put the glued pieces together. If you don't have a clamp , place a sheet of wax paper on top and set some books or other weight to secure the piece. The wax paper just ensures your weight don't get stuck to the counter.

I assume we're talking a laminate top. I serious doubt you pulled it up by putting a bottle of Lysol on it. It was already loose or broken. About the only thing you can do is glue it down and hope against hope your sister doesn't see the seam. Ideally, you should use contact cement but its not the easiest thing to work with if you haven't had experience. I'd get Gorilla Glue. Follow the instructions carefully. Be sure and weigh it down while the glue dries.

what kind of countertop? sounds like since you were able to pull it up...it was probably a melamine counter top...what color? if it's white you're in..if it's some kind of creme color or something funky...you're in trouble...sometimes you can find replacement pieces at thrift stores . Otherwise you're stuck with a color matching problem...if you still have the piece that came off...use a high-strength resin epoxy...or gorilla glue in a pinch and clamp it into place...make sure you cover the entire area..not just the middle of the piece for instance...try using a flat piece of plywood under the clamp to apply as much pressure across the entire area...lightly sanding with a fine grit piece of sandpaper will help fill in the crack that will probably still show...but don't sand too much or you'll make it worse...

i'd use good old elmer's, make sure you put plastic wrap over the glue oozing out and put something fairly heavy on top of it, a few books will work. let it sit for a day and wash the excess elmer's off with a wet sponge and dry.
