Ok - kind of a subjective question. But San Francisco is crazy. $750k starter 2BR cottage. 1.2 Million 4BR with postage stamp back yard. Beam me up Scotty!

Yes I heard San Fran is insane. I am from Long Island, and the average house price is about the same as that. I think that upstate NY is beautiful and reasonable...Saratoga Springs is to die for and the average 4 bedroom 2.5 bath is around 200k....the town is booming! If you are looking to move to the east coast...its definately somthing to consider.

Look in the Midwest. Sure, we are limited in our beaches, but we have good housing prices, all four season and good schools.

I live in a St Louis Suburb. Bought my 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 2 car garage on 1/2 acre with finished walk out basement two years ago for $150K (did I mention all brick with a huge deck in a really nice subdivision?) My real estate taxes were $1100 last year and my son goes to one of the top 10 public schools in Missouri.

I sold a house in the same school district for $125K that was 2 bedroom on an acre of flat land.

We had a fit this week because gas at our gas station got all the way up to $2.79! Crazy! Of course we probably make a little less. I think the average house hold income is around $90K per year. But that is a pretty good middle class wage here.

I love it here!

I'm a Realtor in Frisco, TX, a suburb of Dallas, TX. Frisco has an "Exemplary" rating by the Texas Education Agency (rare), keeps student to teacher ratio small, and keeps the school size small. I can get you a NEW 4/3/2 in a neighborhood that has an elem., and middle school, a park, hiking and biking trails, and a mall about 3 miles from it, for around $300K. Granite countertops, tile floors, custom features like curved walls, crown molding, and heavy, high quality light fixtures. MA checking in - our area - the north shore, you can get a modest home for high $300,000. - $500, 000. some areas better than others. All the school seem to be suffering though - budget cuts, lay-offs - pretty sad for so much affluence around us. The single folks in Boston area are leaving in droves to find better housing prices and jobs.
