I agree with muncie_birder, and my choice would be the 1969 Mets, but I offer the ***1949-53 Yankees*** as better than even the 1927 edition. It's hard to top FIVE consecutive World Series championships, and I would say the competition was just as good as in 1927. Yes, there were changes over that span (Joe DiMaggio retired at the end of the 1951 season and was replaced by Mickey Mantle, for instance), but essentially it was the same team throughout. It took another decade for these Yankees to wind down, as they also won pennants from 1955-1958 and 1960-64 and four more of the ensuing World Series.

(This is one factor explaining hatred of the Yankees: they won four pennants in a row on two other occasions. The only other team to win four pennants in a row was the 1921-1924 New York Giants.)

That is an impossible question to answer. All the teams were relative, relative to the competition at the time. It would be like, excuse the trite expression, comparing apples and oranges. In my opinion it can not be done, at least not by me. I have a friend who will tell you it was the 1954 Cleveland Indians. But their world series performance did not live up to their regular season performance, loosing 4 straight to the NY Giants. Perhas the 54 Giants might be considered.

first off, the '27 yankees are NOT the best team of all time.

That title belongs to The 1984 Detroit Tigers.

Thank You Very Much.

Hard to argue with the '98 Yankees.

1989 oakland A's. they had dave stewart, bob welch and Dennis eckersley pitching. then they had mark mcgwire, jose canseco, and the man of steal rickey henderson batting. doesnt get much better than that.

runner-up: 2001 oakland A's. didnt even make the series but they had the big 3 in addition 2 giambi, damon, chavez and others-like the yankees of today with better pitchers

'98 Yankees were pretty awesome. They killed my Padres in the World Series.
