Along with getting a great deal of outdoor time, and down time with friends, he may like to join a summer sport, my son is allmost 9 and goes to boyscout activities, church activities for kids, like vacation bible school. its also good for kids to learn to help others, like an elderly couple with light yard work, or even helping aout the nehborhood in some way, he could help his dad too!

You and your son should find a common interest and expand on it. Whether it be plaing a particular sport or sharing a hobby, a boy needs his father. My father left me when I was 8 and the fond memories I have are the ones when we would be working on our stamp collection or playing with my star wars collection. I hope this helps and brings you guys closer. Good luck!!!

There are probably local summer camps where you are, through the county or school system.

If he is interested, you may want to try getting him involved with sports.

I suggest he get a kickball league going, or a competitive wiffle ball league, or something like that, for the physical exertion. Then, perhaps four biweekly trips to the public library, for the mental exertion.

Some people, like me, don't have money to send them to camp, or pay for the YMCA, but there are things you can do at home. Depending on where you live, you could have him collect bugs and look them up on the internet.

Maybe get him enrolled in a summer camp or daytime recreational center. If he's into sports, he could join a team.

Ride his bike, play with his friends, play baseball, go to the beach, go to a ballgame, fishing, hiking, learn to skate board....those are the things my 10 year old son likes to do.

Keep him away from video games they are addictive. Have him take up a hobby or sport. If all else fails have him hang out with friends.
