I have been trying to decied what laptop to get for college. I will be an engineering major. I have narrowed it to two computers: the dell inspiron E1405 with the core duo t2500( 2 GHz), 1 GB memory, and 80GB hard Drive; or the Apple MacBook with 1.83 GHz Intel core Duo, 1 GB memory, and 80 GB hard drive. The cost amlost the same so..... I would appreciate any advice, even if you can come up with another computer around a $1300 price tag. And DO NOT compare just the power, i want performance and flexibality. I want it to be useful and be able to just goof around on. I will not be playing any games on it so don't take that into consideration. I just want to get my work done on it.

I think you will find the intuitive OS and software that Mac offers a big production booster. It always takes me twice as long to do stuff on PC than on Mac. All the pop up warnings, and READING instead of recognizing well defined icons. Opening applications with one click and the varios drag and drop options within the dock saves time and frustration. It took me a few days to get used to it all, and you learn new stuff everyday for a while, but i will never go back to pc.

I've been using Mac and PC for years - I've not had a Mac crash on me in 6 years (since moving to OSX 10.2). I've also never had a virus. You can now run Windows on a Mac (if you have a copy of Windows), and amazingly, the fastest laptop to run Vista is a MacBookPro (Yahoo search it if you don't believe me). Get VMWare or Paralles and you can run OSX, XP, Vista and even Limux all at the same time (well, I'd only one 2 at a time, unless you have a LOT of RAM). Personally I prefer the Mac - the interface is much more user friendly, the software is beautiful and stable, and I can do anything a PC user can do on it - check out my Delicious for the best Mac software delicious/nikachu/mac. Looks like new Macs are coming out on the 14th October.

I hate to tell you, but as I do actually know a whole hell of a lot about computers, they are both piles of **** in my opinion. I have a Compaq Presario V2030us(v2000) series laptop. It has Intel Centrino Mobile Technology Processor, 512 memory, 60 gig HD, and a hell of a lot power. It also has a good price tag. Mine cost $1000, but now they are about 6 to 7 hundred. You can get an AMD Turion processor which will have a lot more power than my computer.
