Simply because as your lifespan increases, our man-made units of time (like the year) become a smaller and smaller fraction of the overall time you have been alive.... when you are 15, one year is still a significant fraction of your entire life, but when you are fifty one year seems to go by in the blink of an eye because it is only 1/50th of your life... I can only imagine what it will be like when I am 80.... Enjoy your youth while you have it cuz getting old sucks.

I don't think it's just you - I certainly perceive it the same way, and it's pretty terrifying. My analogy is that life is like a long escalator... but it goes faster and faster as it approaches the top, so that you can't stay in place even if you were to turn around and try to run down... and the sweet days of youth get further and further away - your sight of them is fading... and at the top, there is nothing... you just fall into blackness/nothingness and cease to exist. Let's hope I'm wrong about the last part at least... I realize there's no really good reason to believe that, so may as well believe that we go to heaven, paradise, are re-united with loved ones, etc. Why is it so hard for me to believe something pleasant like that?

I think when we're young, we think we're gonna live forever. We can't imagine being old. Then as we get older, we realize that we aren't going to be here forever and we only have a limited amount of time(and we don't know how limited) to do all the things we want to do. Then, time seems so short. Like sand running through our fingers, time just passes and it does seem to fly by.

Paying bills forces you into being more conscious of the calendar. Having a job forces you to watch the clock. On the positive side, being older usually means you have more opportunities to do fun things, and you eventually reach a point where you can barely squeeze it all in to your schedule. It's all relative.

Its less percentage of life lived already. When you are 10. A year is 10%. At 100 its 1%.

Your brain continues to record "background" sensory input, like flow of time, spatial orientation, etc, but your self-awareness of it lessens because your brain has more memories to compare new input against as you grow older. Consciousness "spikes" when something out of the ordinary is found, and a memory of this spike occurs. The older you get, fewer spikes.

good question, i dont think anyone can answer that. i think its just u realize how special time is and when u get older you start to get nephews and kids and u see them grow and it hits ur heart. i have a nephew and hes gonna be 2 and its scary...hes growing so fast, and all i can do is watch and remember when he was just a lil thing, and remember how my heart and soul was complete when he called me aunt k k for the first time. life is a beautiful thing. we dont see this till were older and we can appericate it.

Time is subjective and relative. When you're having fun, the hours fly by. When you're waiting outside the ladies room for your date to come out it crawls along.
It's an optical delusion. I think. I can't remember. What was the question?

This is such a good question! I've thought of it myself! I'm 53, aerobic instructor/personal trainer etc, and very active. I tend to think time goes by slower when we are younger and thinking about ourselves more. Now I'm so busy all the time, I don't have enough time to do it all! Or? Maybe not? Good question!

Everything is about money..........work, and so on......we can't live the Problem free, safe at home under our parents roof, lifestyle as we did, as children..........everyday was fun, new and exciting when we were innocent children..........now we live for OUR DAYS OFF!!!..
Seems that time is flying by..........bills keep rolling around, and we are ALREADY almost through with the SIXTH month of the year............it's almost Christmas again..........
.........ironically, my "name" Christmas... was given to me...as in "slow as" Christmas.........but in reality... it'll be here (again) before we know it..........
