What's the saying about leading a horse to water? Your answers may have been perfect but like pearls before swine. Don't get discouraged. Helping each other should be rewards enough but many simply forget to give praise where it is due...

Hmmm... I think you must be lucky too. But here
are some guidelines.
First thing to get selected is good writing and excellent
factual information.
For example, (Like this answer).
Good writing means -- good english, and easily followable.
Factual means -- it should be correct and well justified.
It is not enough to tell say the nth Fibonacci number
Fn = 1/sqrt(5) * ( ((1+sqrt(5))/2)^n - (1-sqrt(5))/2)^n))
But you need to justify by telling supportive arguments...
say it's characteristic polynomial is x2 + x - 1=0
which solutions x=phi and 1/phi and substituting etc...
(In case you find my answer the best... please give it :) )
Like above you can be sometimes funny too. But
always have a serious outlook in your solution.
Another important thing is that there must be due respect in
the answer to the asker (one who asked the question)
Extravagant explanations can be often avoided if the asker (like
the explanation of asker above) if the asker has basic
understanding of the problem, and you expect the same
for all readers.
I'ven't gone through any of your answers, but hope this
helps.

It might help if you give correct answers and are not answering to be a smart a** or for points. I looked at some of your questions that you have answered and this seems to be the reason why. Now, I didn't look at all of them so I could be wrong. Also, answer more questions that you know from experience and not just questions you google. The asker can google for themselves. When I pick a best answer I tend to pick someone who knows from experience not someone who just points, clicks, and pastes.

It helps to first as well. And a lot of times people do not choose a best answer for their question and then it has to go to voting and takes a few weeks for a best answer to be decided.

If you provide a good answer just to get reward, then you missed the whole point of yahoo answers.
This was set up to genuinely help people.that are seeking answers from the world pertaining to their questions. The points are just for show and tell.
If you are looking for compensation here, take reward in the fact that you are taking the time to genuanely help someone and potentially making their day whether they vote for your answer as best or not.
