The threat of nuclear weapons being used against the US has been a reality since the Soviets exploded the "JOE" atomic bomb in the 1950s.

The threat is not new - but there are new players in the Nuclear Playboy's Club.

The US exploded over 1000 nuclear bombs under the guise of "Testing". The US also exploded 2 that killed hundreds of thousands of human beings (and God only knows how many animals.)

As yet, no nation except the US has used a nuclear weapon in an act of war. No matter how well justified - it is a fact. The US is probably very worried that the same hellish threat that they have invented and thrust into the world, could turn against them.

Robert Oppenheimer quoted the Bhagavad Gita - "I am death, the destroyer of worlds."

It has been a realistic possibility for a long time. What has changed are the number of nations that are members of the nuclear club and the dismantling of the Soviet Union. I fear a rogue terrorist faction will perpetrate some nuclear event on a US territory.

Historically, the sad thing is that we, the U.S., are the only nation to have killed with nuclear power and we did not have to. The Emperor of Japan was trying to surrender through back-door diplomatic channels, but Trueman ignored the efforts so he could use the weapon. Little did he know what his short sighted decision would hold for our future.

I don't think it's impossible (with our ports as they are), but it is improbable. The highest risk we face is the use of a dirty bomb. A conventional bomb that spreads radio active particles when detonated. Also, Russia is the only country with the capacity to reach our home soil with a tactical nuke. North Korea and Iran two of many countries do not have the rocket technology needed to sustain flight that would reach our soil. Whether they are working on that aspect of nuclear warfare is beyond me. "North Korea's ability to deliver weapons of mass destruction to a hypothetical target is somewhat limited by its missile technology. As of 2005, North Korea total range with its No Dong missiles is only 1,300 km, enough to reach South Korea, Japan, and parts of Russia and China, but not to the United States or Europe. It is not known if this missile is actually capable of carrying the nuclear weapons North Korea has so far developed. BM-25 is a North Korean designed long-range ballistic missile with range capabilities of up to 1,550 miles (2493km), and potential of carrying a nuclear warhead. They have also developed the Taepodong-1 missile, which has a range of 2,000 km, but it is not yet in full deployment. With the development of the Taepodong-2 missile, with an expected range of 5,000-6,000 km[17], North Korea could hypothetically deliver a warhead to almost all countries in Southeast Asia, and parts of Alaska or the continental United States."

that will never happen unless the nuke is transported in wehave tracking computers that can lock on any target and destroy it .so i sleep soundly at night only wooried about a port explosion .the mexicans would hi-jack the weapon and sell it back to the terrorists no way mexicans would help terrorist rob them and kill them yes take there money and id and sneek in to america but there is no way as crooked as mexico is any bombs will ever come from there. ilaugh at all the people who want to waste billions on border defense when we have the crookedist government to our south you got to pay 5 guys to smuggle a pound of pot in and then three more want a bribe and if you are lucky you make it back without have been arrested and having to pay a few thousand to get you out so why do we make such a fuss.

With the nut job dictators running countries like Iran and N. Korea, I think it is very possible. It would be dumb as hell, because they would be permanently wiped off the map. But I don't believe that they are sane enough to care. They would just try to kill as many Americans as they could before they went down.

It will never happen. We probably have missile defense systems that the governent won't even tell us about. Not to mention there's almost certainly people working for the US all over the world giving us the inside scoop.
