Get a steam cleaner, it will kill bed bugs and things living in the carpets. Lavender oil repells ants. Tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle will kill fleas.

You could try an ultrasonic pest repellent (I've seen them advertised on T.V., and at stores like Brookstone and Sharper Image). Ultrasonic pest repellants emit a sound that is supposed to drive away mice, insects, etc. but can't be heard by humans and pets.

It would depend on the pest but the best way might be to give your house a thorough cleaning and then making sure that you don't leave any food out and clean up all spills as soon as they happen.
