Most communication is pointless chatter so in some ways you might as well ask how we made do w/out noise. When you think of the amount of money and time and effort currently being wasted on computers and mobile phones a better question might be how on earth do we manage to get anything done now and could we get to the moon again by just yakking and emailing?

Computers have been around for longer than you think. They just were not the little laptop like machines we all are accustomed to knowing, they used to take up an entire room. But before cell phones there were car phones and before that land line phones, and we all survived. Thankfully I was a child when cell phones came to be more and more popular. Remember that giant cell phone Zack used on saved by the bell?? LMAO- they dont even make house phones that size anymore. Luckily by the time I was 18 cellphones were only about twice the size they are now. Thank god I live in a world full of plasma TVs and itsy bitsy cell phones.

And before electricity, indoor water a heating system, insulation,, decent winter clothing, and a heck of a lot more things. What was life like ? Great, we didn't have all the things that people couldn't do without today. All we had was love, respect, honesty,a willingness to help each other, willingness to work hard and long, a burning desire to learn and appear knowledgeable in as many subjects as possible.
Back in the depression days we didn't have the same things as today, but maybe we had a lot more of what really counts.

Most communication was done by telephone or meeting in person. Architects used drafting paper to draw their plans. My high school used to have a technical drafting course before the computer came along and changed everything.

Slower and quieter! Before E/C/C, I didn't talk to many people. Talked on the landline on evenings and weekends.
Now, easily I talk to 5-10ppl all day everyday.

I actually used to write letters and cared about my spelling. Now I just use spellchecker. My husband actually had something to tell me about his day. With our cellphones it seems that we are with each other all day.
