I think religion was first "created" because of people's curiosity of the world, how it was created, what happens after death, and an explaination for phenominans. I don't think religion first started as a way for rich peopl eto control poor people because a large population of the world were still nomads back then. Religion can be used to control others, but i think purely, it's just answers and a way of life
