Once you reduce the picture it changes the pictures resolution. If you are trying to reduce it to color it and then reenlarge it you will not be able to because all of the original data is gone. Go back to your original method of recoloring the full file. What appears to you as a lock up or no activity is due to the fact that the pic is hi res and it will take some time for the software to do this. Lots of data conversion in photos. Start the process when not using your system and let it run its course. Depending on your processor speed and ram it will take awhile.

you could convert this into a 256 color version of the picture or try reducing the size. Depending on your program of choice, there is a nice free program out there called irvanview. It doesn't take up much room has a lot of support for a lot of different types of files and is easy to use. See link at bottom.

You wouldn't NOT loose quality. Try to do this work with the 1.3MB original. You would not be happy with the results with the 250K version.

Make sure that you INCREASE the number of colors of your grayscale jpg first to millions of colors.

What software are you making use of? My wager is which you truly decide to re-keep your photograph in a decrease dpi (dots per inch). internet-waiting pictures are often 72dpi at the same time as photograph high quality pictures are 300dpi and better. The decrease the dpi, the decrease the traditional of the photograph - however the report length is likewise smaller! in case you're making use of Photoshop, click on "photos" interior the toolbar, and then "photograph length..." From there you could replace the truly length of the image and the determination. The default must be in "pixels/inch" (comparable as dpi) and that's the place you could verify to work out what the traditional of your picture is (and then additionally replace it). with a bit of luck that helps!
