My view of humans is less and less optimistic. I would like to say that they are not self serving but I cannot lie to myself. Soldiers actually have to be programmed into thinking that their fellow soldier is their brother and they should under no circumstances leave them behind to die. It is sad that something like that should have to be taught.

I was caught in the Gulf Coast during the hurricane season of 2005, and found that the only way to help myself WAS to help others. If I had been completely self serving, I would have gone crazy. The only way that I made it through as well as I did was by forgetting my own issues and throwing myself into work for the greater good.
Although it wasn't a mahority of people who felt the way my family did, we certainly weren't the only ones who helped out.

That same thought can extend to you and your immediate 'family'...no one left behind. Mankind began to learn that there's safety in numbers and looking out for others in turn gets yourself looked out for.
