Gidday Mike, How are ya?
About depression, it's depend of what kinda depression you have. Are you depress about your work? relationship? or anything?
For example: If I am getting depressed on my work at the office, I would rather take a few days off and leave all your works at the office. I usually take a doctor's certificate, so your few days off will be secured. If I do love the job (like being a designer), but then suddenly getting depressed. Simply I leave it and do something else which is opposite from design. Like doing a hobby craft (assembling air combat, car, etc), sports, playing computer game, watching movies anything which is not related to my job.

If I get depressed on my life activities such as dealing with friend or relationship or related with someone, I will try to keep it silence, or ignore them, try to get busy for myself doing something else or the best thing is to find any other people (other friend or making new friend) to talk, or just like what I mentioned on above.

See..Mike, Anything about doing the opposite way just like the way I do if the depression comes to me.

Hope this will help ya, mate.

I can not answer that question. I read and hear about so many having depression but personally I have never had it. I have had some days when I thought things were not going as they should be nothing like what I hear about. I don't know if it is because I Expect very little from other people or not. I can always find something to do even if it is just reading about something. I never am really bored with anything. If I am where or doing what I really do not like then I change. Move to another place or work at something Else. Nearly 70 now and sure have had a good life. Not rich at all but a very good life. Looking forward to the next fifty or so.

From my experience, don't put too much trust in drugs or doctors. It's something that may never go away (unfortunately some of us are just wired that way).

To an extent, it's something that you have to deal with and be aware of. If you can get to a point when you can control it to some degree then you'll be better off than being on drugs.

Do go to your doctor though, and follow that course, but don't expect any miracles. I've had problems with it for over a decade (since my early teens) and the only way I've got any better was through myself.

Trust your friends, know they care, and make sure you have people you can talk to who will understand without passing judgement. This, in my experience, is the best medicene there is.

Hope this helps, dude. All the best.

Find things to enjoy which capture your attention and keep your home well lighted. And see a doctor as it is a very common problem and could be caused by a chemical imbalence or even some prescriptions can be a cause. You may consider painting your home with light colors as they can enhance your mood. Humor is good medicine for depression also. Also try not to sweat the small stuff in your life . Don't be hard on yourself when things go wrong. And you may not want to spend to much time watching the daily new because most focuses on negative subjects.

This very much depends what kind of depression you are suffering from. There caused by any combination of the following three factors [ref 1]:
1. Depression is a medical disease, caused by a neurochemical or hormonal imbalance.
2. Depression is caused by certain styles of thinking.
3. Depression is a result of unfortunate experiences. Often, traumatic events can be linked to the onset of depression.

The reference explains more. But here are ways to combat depression [ref 2] by focussing on:
1. What we do. (Behavioral therapy)
2. How we think about things. (Cognitive therapy)
3. How we relate to others. (Interpersonal therapy)
4. How things are going to be better in the future. (Solution focused therapy)
5. Getting our basic emotional needs met in the wider world
Helping you find solutions to your immediate problems

Each of the above therap therapy types contribute greatly to overcoming depression; good depression counseling uses all these mentioned approaches in a skilful blend.

As hard as it is to do drag yourself out of the house and walk daily. Try very hard to make several friends who are happy to talk with you. See a Doctor. Some antidepressant medications do work although it often requires trial and error to find out which one or combinations work best for you. Always rememver that no one is worthless, everyone has at least a few people that would miss them dearly and should not be put to the order oof your loss. Try to look at the bright side of things and situations, it can be hard. But most situations have a an angle for possibilities or absurd side that is worth a good laugh. Rent humorous movies and nightclub stand up comedian shows. Exercise is almost as good as regular walking Doing both bring multiplicative benefits.
Hang in, and carry on.

As somebody already pointed out, depression can be caused by several factors. First identify what is causing your depression (probably with some professional help) and then fight the cause not the symptoms. Things that can also work to feel better are: do exercise (it affects the brain chemistry in a positive way). Make time to go out with friends. Keep a positive actitude and laugh often. ;-) Hereis some web info.

You need to see a doctor and be properly diagnosed. If it's seriously depression you two will figure out what the next step is together. You can't combat clinical depression with music and **** like that. Sometimes it's a chemical imbalance that needs to be corrected with medication. Other times you just need someone experienced to talk to.

From experience ive found that you are always the last one to know you are depressed! Letting family and friends know is important because change in behaviour can ruin relationships. Push yourself to do things and try not to stay at home because thats when you start to think more. If you are unhappy, find the reason why and do your best to change things. I was unhappy with jobs and then finally decided to go to college and do what I always wanted to. Feeling better because of that! Depression wont go away unless you find the cause. Mine triggered by drugs in my early years of clubbing so all I need to do now is try and find my causes for unhappiness and do something to make my life better. Pills dont work, just a short term solution. Learn to deal with it and make that extra effort. Its so hard to deal with and it might never go away fully but what helps is doing things you never thought you could do and talking to close people around you.

Pills have their side effects, I wouldn't recommend them. Try starting a project (gardening, walking dogs, drawing even if you're not any good at it...). Listen to calm music. Ask yourself why you're depressed. Once you find the reason, come up with solutions. You might also want to sit down with a good friend and talk things over, go places, maybe start a project together. You have to look at the good things in life, once you start to do that then you will see that there is nothing to be depressed about.
