No the compressor is on no matter what the fan speed is so enjoy the cool air. It uses the same amount of gas anyway.

It's not that kind of gas you dweeb. For a minute there I figured you had an air conditioner that burned soft coal or wood.
The gas (freon) is in a sealed system and circulates. The fan blows air over the chilled coils and hence....cool air.
The only thing that goes up slightly is the electric bill. Everytime the temp drops below what the thermostat is set for on the a/c it kicks in. So continued use will reflect in your utility bill.

An A/C has two modes. Compressor on/compressor off. If it is blowing cold air the compressor is on,therefore it is using more gas or electricity. When the compressor is off it is just the fan running. It takes a lot of electricity to run the compressor which makes the cold air. Very little to run just the fan. So in a nut shell, the colder you want it the more it will cost you to run.

Not much more, no. Actually you are still saving gas by using the AC, then by having the windows down. Having the windows down creates air drag that decreases fuel efficiency.

it does use more, the compressor on your car has a clutch, so while the belt is all ways spinning its not always turning the compressor, but the fuel consumption is not really enough to worry about

A/C uses LESS FUEL on max, a little less if the blower is on a lower speed. On normal it uses more.

I often wondered this myself but I'm pretty sure that if you have it on is uses more gas than if it's off.
