Earlier my other question was to ask the definitions of Biker vs Motorcyclist. Windshields are attributes that make me ponder.

Really the 'bad person' part of my question was meant as a joke. This question is more in line with the theme of the 1970's book titled 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'. The biography of middle class American who questions the conformist pressures and the rite of passage he tells his son. Maybe a bit deep for these times but well those were the 70's.

Only an opinion, but if you're doing day rides, and bar hopping, a full face helmet or good eye protection should suffice. If you're going to be going on long rides (250 miles +), the windscreen will greatly reduce the pounding your body takes, and you won't be so tired at the end of the day. 6-8 hours of wind hitting you at 60-70 mph takes more of a toll on you than you realize, and when you're tired is when you'll make a mistake. Harley and some of the larger metric bikes, have a windshield system that allows you to remove and replace the windshield in a matter of minutes.

Kiss the wind. I ride 600 miles easily a day and enjoy the taste of a good oil drop. I know the dressers think that riding without a windsheild is ignorance and my answer is: "You're probably right old man!"

All honesty, do what you like and have fun. You've been labeled a bad person by many when you first kicked your leg over the saddle.

Do you wear a helmet with a visor? if so then I see no reason for a windshield. But if you don't wear a helmet then I would want a windshield to keep the bugs out of my eyes & teeth. Nothing like getting juiced at 60MPH.

Yes a real windshield will give you better mileage. On a sport bike you never will ride if fast enough to get any advantages

I think windshields look lame. But if you don't use a full face helmet, they are the best thing to keep bugs, dirt, wind and such out of your face. In the end, it all comes down to personal preferance.

Aren't you focusing too much on how things look, and worrying about what others think?

If your only concern is to be accepted and go mainstream, get a harley and buy and do whatever the salesperson at the dealership tells you to.

I have always used a windshield because it makes for a more comfortable ride.

windshields are for eye protection, at high speed any small particle that will hit your eye is like a bullet so if you have no visor better to have the windshield.

If I had no windscreen I would buy a full face helmet when that wind hits you and everything else it stings.
