You are describing the difference between a Celtic foot and a Saxon foot. A Celtic foot has straight toes and a longer front of the ball of the foot. A Saxon foot has angled toes and a shorter front of the foot.
Unfortunately for me, American shoe fit was brought into this country from German shoe lasts. The typical shoe is ill-fitting for a Celtic foot.
Since my family is some of each we have the angle of the English with the length, shape and bunion potential of the Celt. I despised the shoes of the 1990's which had very short vamps and left me with toe-cleavage.

Well, the genotype and phenotype in this person's toes may have a genetic defect causing him to have long toes. I don't know,maybe look at the parents' toes.

we all have different bone shapes. The smaller your foot is, more likely you will have smaller toes. Taller people have longer toes since they have longer bone shapes then us short people
