According to the website listed below, a 14 y.o. girl is suing MySpace because an online predator lied on MySpace. Why is it that more and more people are putting the blame of their kids errors on other people and companies? I believe the blame should be on the parents if anyone. Why is it that parents no longer take responsability for their kids? Why is it always the computer, a website, a teacher's or someone else's fault?

I think parents need to accept more responsability, what do you think?

I agree, it's pathetic how irresponsible parents are getting. When I was a kid I remember parents stamping their foot down on their rules and not letting up. Nowadays parents seem to think every little red mark on a paper or "dangerous" playground equipment is going to wreck their child's life and make them be hated forever, so they must let the kid do whatever s/he wants.

As for this girl's lawsuit; she's fourteen, for god's sake! I remember I was ten when I first met what is now called a "Internet sexual predator" and even as a ten-year-old with limited, innocent knowledge of the world I knew that giving out my phone number and personal information--no matter what that person tells me--is not a smart thing to do (and this was when the Internet was still new and dial-up only!). She's fourteen, undoubtedly she's been on the Internet for years now. Every single day the television is screaming about sexual predators--most importantly MySpace--and school computer classes (as well as some other classes, not to mention any teacher ever that finds out a kid talks to strangers online) tells them not to give out personal information or a phone number; ESPECIALLY without their parent's permission.

It's ridiculous. Kids today all have iPods, cell phones, money, cars, computers, high speed internet access, digital cameras (parents should really be checking what their kid is taking pictures of), etc. when it's clear most of them are too ignorant to truly deserve such things.
Parents need to start stepping up again and bringing a little more discipline and a lot less "I want to be your friend, not your enemy!" into the households. They need to pay attention to their child's activities online (seriously, all they have to do is Google a username and bam!half of the kid's Internet history is there in plain sight) and punish them for doing things they're not supposed to do. I'm sick of parents never taking the blame for their own kid's stupidity. They're the ones that brought them into the world, it's their duty to protect and know what the hell their kid's up to.

(P.S.: And $30 million? Jesus christ.)

I don't think that it is right to sue myspace. Myspace creators realized that there would be a threat to minors safety but there really is not much more they can do. When you sign up for a myspace it tells you how to be careful- like not giving out personal information, setting your profile to private- so you can only communicate with people on your list. They have taken the necessary steps. Parents do need to realize that there child has read this and if they are so worried about it then they need to monitor their childs usage. People always look for something to blame- such as music drving kids to kill, hurt themselves or whatever, It simply is not true. Those things were done by that persons own will. But yes, parents should monitor their kids and it is really easy to- they can get an account also.

i think thats a load of b.s. YOUNG KIDS STAY THE H E L L OFF OF IT IF YOU CANT HANDLE PERVERTS SAYING THINGS KLIKE THAT. How can he sexually assult her if hesonline? Unless they met up, and thats would be the girls fault. I think the parents are trying to get money. 30 million for some crazy dude? if 18 yr olds deal with this, then they would know how to handle it. How would a 14 yr old girl know to sue mydspace anyhow? sounds like some sort of coverup, and the parents are using her to get rich. and anyway, online sexual assualt would be a tort, unless he somehow found her info and raped hwer in her home, or just showed up unexpectadly, then the parwents should be sued by myspace. God, people are trying to hard to be celebrities. GO TO WORK PARENTS OF THE LITTLE GIRL! then you'll make your frickin 30 million, lazy parasites. Parents these days suck anyway.

i think that MySpace has become somewhat of a dangerous place to be honest. however, i also think that people, especially girls, are not careful or smart when it comes to who they talk to and who they get to know. so, i dont think that MySpace should be sued.

yes, parents need to monitor what their children are doing but, they cannot see every single person that their child is communicating with. honestly, at 14, you should be able to tell if a person is the type that you should get to know, or if they are the type that you should walk away from.

if the child doesnt know the difference between a dangerous person and a safe one, then the parents should definitely be blamed.

i dont know if that rambling made sense however, in this instance, i would say, MySpace should not be sued.

Myspace does no longer deserve this ridicule. It does an fairly good pastime of turning out to be and implementing safe practices measures. the problem is the moms and dads. they do exactly not visual reveal unit their young ones o.k.. the little ones are at fault too. they're those that grew to develop into off Myspace's safe practices measures. This in structure is in all likelihood to be received through Myspace because the little ones agreed to the words through which they're allowed to have a Myspace. Its exceedingly unhappy seeing those ignorant moms and dads attempting to get money.

somehow I would hope that a site for young adults could be just that, no one over a certain age group allowed,(just how that could be enforced I don't have a clue)I only respond to questions. But the parents should try to at least try to keep and eye on what the young adult is doing. After all they don't let you play in the middle of the freeway during rush hour do they?

Everyone in the world is noticing only the negative aspects of Myspace..

Why can't they just leave it alone, and keep kids under 16 OFF of it..

Parents should first of all patrol what theyre children do online.

Secondly, who they plan on meeting up with.

Theres 2 faults.

Its not like they can get myspace to close down.
So all they want is money now.

I agree. Parents should definately moniter their childrens actions on the internet, ecspecially on myspace, but only to an extent that allows them some kind of privacy.

I don't think its Myspace's fault. Its an online community. Its not their fault that some sickos are on the net trying to get little kids......How are they supposed to what is and isn't the truth.
