This image of animal activists is the one I see portrayed in popular culture a lot. Usually the activist would inconspicuosly walk into a mall, ask where the furs are, and then proceed to yell out "Fur is murder!" while branding the words onto the coat/wrap/etc. with spray paint.

But I seriously cannot see activists in real life doing this because of the flawed logic (or so it seems to me). Wouldn't the act just make the retailer ask for more fur from their suppliers, therefore increasing the killing of animals? They would be hurting their own cause, and I imagine that people so passionate about their cause would be more careful about endeavouring into something of that nature.

Yes and no; over the short term, it would cause the retailer to have to order more furs, but long term, if activists kept doing it, it could become expensive enough that the retailer would think twice about selling it -- buying merchandise you can't sell isn't good business practice.

The same tactic has also been used against private citizens; activists would wait near big public events where they know that ritzy folks will probably walk through wearin furs and then douse them with either paint or something looking like blood.

Yep. Check out PETA's website.

They're nuts, and they perform attention getting antics. I think they hurt their cause by being so ridiculous. It turns more people against them and what they want, than bringing people to their side of the fence.

It's a case of their hearts being in the right direction, but their heads in the wrong direction.

Unfortunately there are extremes on every issue. The people that do not respect other people's choices have serious issues within themselves.
