Due to an alleged sexual assault of a 14 year old by a 19 year old who supposedly lied about who he was to lure her into meeting him.
I think it's really bogus, and as much as I hate what allegedly happened to the 14 year-old, I feel the lawsuit is mostly without merit. MySpace is not a babysitter. The 14 year-old's MOTHER should take some of the responsibility for this in not teaching her child about Internet safety and for not monitoring her child's Internet use. The parents are ultimately responsible for the minor's behavior, not MySpace. Anyone can use a website to prey on the weak, naive, and to prey on children, women and men for their own sick sexual pleasures. It is not up to websites like Yahoo! or MySpace to verify every single thing their users claim to be facts; it's up to the individual to use their own common sense. Common sense tells you not to go meet a 19 year old boy without telling your parents about the hook up - oh, why? Because she didn't want them to know.

A 19 yr old boy solicited a 14 yr old girl (he said he was a h.s quaterback)..she met him and was sexually assualted. Mom was pissed because she said myspace is responsible for the incident...though i can't see how. myspace can control liars and it allows 14 yrs old to sign up... the girl was stupid to meet some one who lied on myspace and her mother was even stupider to let her daughter go and meet this liar. So out of stupidity of both of them mom called up a lawyer and will try to sue myspace for 30 million dollars in damages. Hmmm another scape goat for the reason our children get hurt...
I think it's stupid. I'm sorry the girl got hurt out of the nelect of her parents. May this open the eyes of parents to monitor what their kids are up too. This is one of many reasons why parents need to ask who and where and get details....and to "spy." Parents let this be a lesson to u..i mean come on u already seen what this site is like with our perverts running around....

Girl, 14, sues MySpace.com for not protecting members
AUSTIN, Texas - A 14-year-old girl who says she was sexually assaulted by another user of MySpace.com sued the social networking Web site yesterday, claiming it does not do enough to protect underage members.
The girl says that a 19-year-old man lied in his profile about being a senior on a football team to gain her trust and phone number. Pete Solis was arrested in May on a charge of sexual assault of a child.
The suit, which asks for $30 million, alleges that MySpace has "absolutely no meaningful protections or security measures to protect underage users."
In a statement, MySpace said it is committed to the safety of its members.
You will find many stories like this at http://google.com/news
In general, Parents should teach their children about safety and watch them.

I don't know, but the only reason I can think of that is actually justifiable is that some perverts are using it to hunt down young girls and guys. Maybe a parent is suing for that, but who knows these days. Maybe some pervert priest was hunting down little boys and the parent's are suing. The web is the web and this crap will happen if kids are stupid.

A fourteen year old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted after meeting someone through Myspace. Her mother is claiming she was not adequately protected by Myspace.
Stupid litigious woman. She should monitor her OWN child's online activities, that's hardly Myspace's job.

Because a mother doesn't know how to raise her daughter and because she doesn't know how, she wants 30 million from Myspace.

I am not sure. I actually like it. I read the other answers I agree a little and If these young girls are being lured ( i am not sure of the spelling) I believe that their are other personal issues in their life that everyone should consider. I mean common sense don't give out personal info taht personal to a stanger.
Me I believe Tom did a great job and I am glad that he created this site. How long are they going to blam, others. In a minute they will ban tv's for violence

Well for one, in the past few or so month, it hasn't exactly gotten the greatest publisity. Kids createing a my space to talk badly about another student, a student createing a my space talking about how they were going to attack the school with guns and bombs. And it doesn't end there, do a search in the news about myspace, you find a whole lot about it, Just click here

Because stupid parents allow their kids to own a computer. And these same stupid parents do not monitor what their kids are doing on their computers.
In my opinion, the parents should be the ones who should penalize. Myspace does not do parenting jobs.
