Charles Manson was not executed because during his stay in prison California decided not to execute people. I believe they have changed the law again, but he is grandfathered in now. I don't believe any of the Manson family was executed. Maybe Tex Watson was.

Actually they were all sentenced to death, but the California Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional a couple of years later, so their death sentences were automatically commuted to life imprisonment.
Later, the voters amended the California consitution to allow for the death penalty, but it couldn't be applied retroactively to the Manson family.
***edit
At that time there was no "life without parole" so at a minimum of every five years they are entitiled to a parole hearing. That's when Manson puts his show on. None of the family has been granted parole, and most likely will never. Leslie Van Houten is the only one who has an outside chance of seeing the free world again..

The death penalty was repealed shortly after the Manson family was sentenced so all of those that were convicted are now doing life bits and do come up for parole every few years which has been denied one or two may have been paroled but I am not certain As for Charlie He knows they will never let him out so we tells the board whatever he feels like

No, Manson was to be executed, but the Supreme cpurt thru the death sentence out for a long time becaue it was cruel and unusual. He escaped that way!

California at one time determined that the death penalty was cruel and disavowed it. When that happened all the members got commuted to life. Even though they reinstated the death penalty, because of double jeopardy the life sentences stayed.

California doesn't have the death penalty so there is no death row. They are in prison and eligible for parole, but each time they've come up for parole, they've all been denied.
