hmm I would have to say I admire how well Sean Penn played Sam in I am Sam in 2001. It takes alot of talent to play a handicapped person and pull it off. I also think Tom Hanks did a great performance in Forrest Gump and Leonardo DiCaprio in What's eating Gilbert Grape.

Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire". Don't know the year, sometime in the 30's to 50's. His character was the first one like it to be seen on film. People didn't see people act this way on film until him.
Oh, and also Dustin Hoffman in either 'Hook' or Rainman. You can't even tell it's dustin hoffman in Hook, amazing job, really in character.
