You cant, theres a lot of configuration of registry keys and files in your systems 32 folder that need to get installed properly. You will need the CD. You cant just copy it over like its a file. An operating system is a lot more involved than that.

Just get a recovery CD and partition your drives again and reinstall windows.

you don't.

The only operating system I can think of that is even remotely capable of this is Linux, and even then, not without editing a lot of configuration files.

You can try to copy it from one drive to the other by selecting all the files and copying them to the e drive, but be prepared to edit a couple thousand registry entries, the bootloader, and any other settings that might get in your way. Short of purchasing a copy of Norton Ghost there are really no viable ways to do this easily.

You will need ghosting software. Not all ghosting software will work either. If you have at least one maxtor hard drive you can download maxblast from their site. It does an excellent job! Keep in mind that the drive wont run on anything but the original system. I use this method to keep a backup of my main drive. No muss no fuss. Aint gotta go thru the bs of reloadin all that junk! If you are tryin to bootleg xp forget it! It wont work...
