Remember, Jim Abbot? The California Angels' left-handed picther with only one hand? If he had pitched in the National League where the pitcher bats, do you think he would have been an exception for his team to use the DH rule? And if so, do you think that the opponent team would have demanded to be allowed to use a DH? Or maybe he wouldn't have qualified to be a NL pitcher. What do you think?

Believe it or not, he was a good hitter in college. He wasn't going to jack a lot of dongs, but he could put the ball in play and he did have two hits with the Brewers, and three RBI to boot.

The NL would never allow Abbot's club to use the DH rule. It's an American League thing. Abbot was a pretty good hitter in college but he wasn't drafted because of this stick.

One other note: Abbot did play for Milwaukee, but I believe the Brewers were still in the AL at that time. Cheers!

Baseball rules are baseball rules. No exceptions. He cannot bat. If it has come down to a world series he would have had to learn to bat. Do you remember when Mariano Rivera couldn't bat and they taught him. Same principle.

He did play in the national league, got a couple of hits I think. Just batted one handed-had one hand all his life and adjusted to it. I think he is unbelievable to overcome a handicap like that !
